Andrew is a senior Engineering and Technology professional respected the world over; and has served for 25 years at the partner level of some of the top engineering firms. He has over 40+ years of experience in civil and urban engineering consultancy work, embracing a wide range of disciplines and projects in many parts of the world. He has worked at Board level for an international consultancy practice and provided advice to senior Government leaders and directors of major development companies.
Over the past two decades, this breadth and depth of involvement has found its outlet in leading on a growing number of major Masterplan and urban development projects whilst working with Buro Happold Consulting Engineers. Work in this field, integrating a wide range of disciplines and skills to deliver efficient, sustainable and attractive urban quarters has been delivered in the Middle East, India, China and Russia as well as Europe. In doing so, he has worked alongside some of the world’s leading architects and designers.
During the early part of the millennium, Andrew was involved in a number of the most significant regeneration projects in the UK, including Greenwich Peninsula and Wembley City. From 2003 until 2010, Andrew led the Buro Happold team providing the strategic engineering inputs of the London 2012 Olympic Park and Legacy Masterplan and Design working within the senior management team of the EDAW Consortium and directly for the London Development Agency and Olympic Delivery Authority.
In more recent years, Andrew has led Buro Happold teams on a number of other major development projects including the planning of Tun Razak Exchange, a new financial district in Kuala Lumpur (of a similar scape to London’s Canary Wharf), and the extension for the City of Istanbul to accommodate an additional population of two million people. He has also worked extensively in the Middle East, in particular leading Buro Happold teams on a number of the giga- and mega- projects being developed in Saudi Arabia. These are significant not only in the ambition and scale of program but also in the context of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and aim to shift the focus of the country from an oil-based economy to one which embraces a more diverse set of economic sectors, mainly focused around technology. The work includes providing strategic consultancy advice and managing teams providing a wide range of technical services. In addition, Andrew has led the practice’s work on the ‘smart city’ agenda, developing Buro Happold’s Living City model.
In 2000, he was appointed a Partner of Buro Happold and in 2004 became responsible for the development of its Infrastructure teams worldwide. In 2008, the remit was widened to include the company’s Environment and Ground Engineering teams. He sat as a member of the Practice’s Main Board from 2003 until 2012 and helped to establish their successful ‘Cities’ Group. His external relationships have included working with organizations such as CABE as a Review Panelist, with Government through the Innovation and Growth Team for the Construction Industry and in industry as a member of the Strategic Infrastructure Forum for the Institution of Civil Engineers as well as industrial lead for its thought leadership program on Cities Growth.
Andrew stepped down as a Partner in the Autumn of 2020 and began his work with CGP.
