Dr. SCOTT M. SASSER

Scott is an accomplished, collaborative, mission-focused physician executive with successful leadership experience in large dynamic healthcare systems, clinical operations, physician leadership, global and public health, and academic medicine. He currently leads the medical group of the 8th largest health system in the United States with over 2,200 physicians and providers, and is responsible for the clinical operations of six acute care facilities and holds the academic rank of Professor of Emergency Medicine.

Throughout his career, Scott has worked nationally and internationally on clinical and public health issues related to the care of the acutely ill and injured with a focus on emergency healthcare system development, education, preparedness and response, and emergency medical services. Scott has lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and has received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the United States Agency for International Development.

Early in his career, Scott realized the impact that low-cost, simple, sustainable healthcare interventions could have on morbidity and mortality in low- and middle-income countries, and he focused his work on strengthening global emergency care systems, including: developing and implementing an emergency medicine training program in the Republic of Georgia; developing and leading a training program in the Republic of Mozambique, focused on providing public health training to Mozambican clinicians; creating a global health fellowship program for emergency physicians; founding a nonprofit to develop a pediatric healthcare facility in Rwanda; serving as the lead editor for the World Health Organization on a manuscript to provide guidance on prehospital trauma care systems; and working with CDC in India to address the burden of injury due to road traffic crashes.

Over the past six years, Scott has focused his career on healthcare clinical operations and physician group leadership, and has served as a department chair, regional and market chief clinical officer, and medical group president for a large non-profit healthcare system.

Given his diverse experience across the spectrum of healthcare, public health, and academia, Scott has a comfort level in working in any environment and has the knowledge and expertise to communicate effectively, work collaboratively to develop solutions, and implement sustainable programs that lead to improved outcomes.
